26 Million Americans Support Use of Political Violence Against Trump

A study published in July details the number of Americans who support the use of violence to hinder political candidates.

The study, called “Political Violence and the Election: Assessing the Threat from the Left and the Right,” and published by the Chicago Project on Security and Threats (CPOST), found that there is “more support for violence against Trump than to restore Trump.”

CPOST conducted a national survey in June, finding that many Americans “say violence is justified to prevent or cause a change in power.”

Almost 7% of respondents (6.9%), or 18 million U.S. adults, said the “use of force is justified to restore Trump to the Presidency.”

Ten percent of U.S. adults, or 26 million people, said force is justified to “prevent Trump from becoming president.”

While 26 million American adults believe the violence against Trump is justified, 171 million adults, or 66.1%, do not believe political violence is justified.

According to the study, these 26 million American adults are “active, dangerous,” and exhibit “growth potential.”

Twenty-two million of these adults have “access to internet organizational tools,” nine million own guns, 5 million have attended a protest in the last year, and three million are either in the military or know of someone in the military.
