For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures. (1 Corinthians 15:3, 4)
The Gospel is the story of Jesus – his death, his burial, his resurrection – all in accordance with the Scriptures.
This story was passed on to Paul as of first importance. He never watered it down to please others. He never diminished it to build himself up. In every instance, Paul claimed the Gospel to be of first importance.
This is important to note.
Because the story of Jesus is not a secondary event in human history.
No, his story is the lead, the most important of all, essential.
Even today, 2000 years later, it stands far above every other story in importance and relevance.
If the Gospel is not true, if Christ had not died or been raised, then all is lost. We are still dead in our sins. If the Gospel is not true, then we have no assurance of salvation, if the Gospel is not true, then our faith is useless.
But, thanks be to God, the Gospel is true. Jesus did die for your sins. He was buried and on the third day was raised to life.
Think about it. What can the world offer you that compares to the life, forgiveness and freedom you have in Christ?.
Aren’t you glad that when that message was preached to you, you received it and that your life is now centered in Jesus? The Gospel story has now become your story.
Recognize today that the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus is of first importance in your life. Everything else pales in comparison.
