A Prayer : By Annie

We were asked to post this as an OP By Annie.

Last Sunday my cousin prayed this for the closing prayer at his church. He changed the words to fit our present day America, doesn’t it fit? (read Daniel 9:4-19) When I received the prayer in an email, I was so moved by it that I immediately asked if I could share it here on CAC. The answer was a resounding “YES”.

“O LORD, You are our great and awesome God – one who keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him and keep His commandments.
But we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and rebellious. We have rejected Your commands and disobeyed Your laws.
The people of our land have ignored the preaching of Your servants – and we are covered in shame because of our unfaithfulness to You.
Our leaders have sinned against You – and we are ashamed of that.
We have disobeyed Your word – all of America has broken Your laws – we have all rebelled, turned away from You, and refused to obey.
And now we are facing disasters, pouring out on us like we have never seen before – just like Your word promised if we sinned against You. Your judgments against our rulers are fulfilled – just as You said they would be. We have no one to blame but ourselves – and yet we still have failed to turn to You and seek Your favor – we still haven’t repented and given our attention to Your truth. This sad state of affairs that we find ourselves in, is exactly what a God who is righteous in everything He does, is fully justified to bring upon us – and even still we have not obeyed.
But now O LORD our God – You are righteous – You are still merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against You – You are the God who has rescued His people before – and we confess our sins. We have ignored Your commandments for too long. Even the other nations of the world look at us with scorn.
And so LORD – in keeping with all Your righteous acts, we plead with You to turn away Your anger and Your wrath from America. Hear the prayers and petitions of Your servants. We want to be Your holy people. We want You to look with favor on our desolate land. Listen to our prayers, open Your eyes and see that we are serious.
While we wear Your name – we do not make this request because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy.
Please LORD – forgive us. Please hear us and act quickly for the sake of Your people – those who honor You and bear the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ.
In Jesus name we pray – Amen”
