Herod’s Violence to the Church

12 Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church. Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword. And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread. So when he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four [a]squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.

Peter Freed from Prison

Peter was therefore kept in prison, but [b]constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were [c]keeping the prison. Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands. Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And he said to him, “Put on your garment and follow me.” So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. 10 When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter had come to himself, he said, “Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people.”

12 So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a girl named Rhoda came to answer. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, because of her gladness she did not open the gate, but ran in and announced that Peter stood before the gate. 15 But they said to her, “You are beside yourself!” Yet she kept insisting that it was so. So they said, “It is his angel.”

16 Now Peter continued knocking; and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. 17 But motioning to them with his hand to keep silent, he declared to them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, “Go, tell these things to James and to the brethren.” And he departed and went to another place.

18 Then, as soon as it was day, there was no small [d]stir among the soldiers about what had become of Peter. 19 But when Herod had searched for him and not found him, he examined the guards and commanded that they should be put to death.

And he went down from Judea to Caesarea, and stayed there.

Good morning and welcome

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

      • Yes, it was last night thank the Lord. I have a medical alert with the electric company. My husband has severe sleep apnea. He also uses oxygen at night. I was upset yesterday when the electric went down because I couldn't actually speak to anyone at the electric company and I knew they didn't remember about our medical alert, finally around three yesterday afternoon I tried again and didn't get a person but I got a persons answering machine and left a message and around six thirty the power came back on. If it hadn't my husband would have had to sleep sitting up and I would have had to sleep with one ear open to hear if he stopped breathing so I could wake him.

        • I wouldn’t trust your electric company anymore.
They make propane generators. Get ahold of your local propane supplier they’ll bring you an extra tank just for your generator. Just put in 50 gallons. If you can and next month put in another 50 gallons. Our power doesn’t go out that often. A 8000 watt generator should suffice your every need except central air. Propane generators are usually quieter than gasoline ones.

  • {James} James the Lord's brother. There is still no supremacy of Peter over the church. The nearest Peter ever got to it was to be one of three pillars of the church.

Galatians 2:9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

  • While doing active duty in the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, behind me stood a girl in restraints. By the time we got to the bottom of the stairs her restraints had "just fallen off." A prison guard said, "who did that?" I spoke UP and said, "well you shouldn't have tied her up" The prison guard was in shock because the girl had been standing behind me the entire time. Those who Jesus sets free, are free indeed.

  • I saw this on Facebook and decided to share it:
“A Sign in a Window In Philadelphia - The following sign was in the window of a business:
"We would rather do business with 1000 terrorists than with a single Jew!"
Ordinarily this might be cause to get the anti-Hate groups involved but perhaps in these stressful times one might be tempted to let the proprietors, Goldstein's Funeral Home, simply make their statement.
    😆 Lol ❤️”
