Daily Thread – Acts 12

Herod’s Violent Death

20 Now Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus [e]the king’s personal aide their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was [f]supplied with food by the king’s country.

21 So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them. 22 And the people kept shouting, “The voice of a god and not of a man!” 23 Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and [g]died.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

Barnabas and Saul Appointed

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned [h]from Jerusalem when they had fulfilled their ministry, and they also took with them John whose surname was Mark.

Good morning and welcome

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

      • Me too Annie. I got up to go to the bathroom and then the dogs went to the door and by the time they came back I was wide awake. I'm listening to David Jeremiah right now.

        • Since I've gone back to work, my dogs are getting used to my alarm going off super early. Now they're waking that early on weekends, too!

  • John 3:20-21 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.

    • I just noticed something this morning of why most Christians use different biblical translations is because of their ability to understand how it is written.
Your translation ends ‘ that they have been done by God’. ( NKJV)
My translation is ‘ as having been wrought by God. ( NASB )
Wording is the keep to understanding.
I prefer NKJV myself, my church reads NASB.
That’s why I would ‘ NOT ‘ give a new believer a ‘ KJV ‘ to start their journey of learning about God/Jesus.
But probably a NKJV to start to learn about God/Jesus.

      • I like the KJV personally, it's like "coming home" since that's the translation I grew up with. But it is difficult to understand at times so the NKJV is my go-to when I'm online. I have a couple NIV translations that I read here at home or at my Bible studies.

        • I started with the Living Bible and one year later I got a KJV Scofield study Bible. I used for 15 years with a Thompson chain reference bible and went to a NKJV Thompson after that.

        • When not understanding the KJV, the Strong's Concordance with the links to the Lexicons can lead to some very interesting word studies.
When you get started on the links for the root words, and branches off them, the scripture unfolds and opens.

  • I was listening to music this morning. One song? Always reminds me of Salvation.
................John Newton - Before Jesus - Slave Trader. Murderer. Rapist.
Reverend John Newton - After Jesus:
"Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound. That Saved a Wretch Like Me
I Once Was Lost, But Now Am Found. Was Blind, But Now I See."
