Daily Thread – Acts 18 NKJV

Ministering at Corinth

18 After these things Paul departed from Athens and went to Corinth. And he found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla (because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome); and he came to them. So, because he was of the same trade, he stayed with them and worked; for by occupation they were tentmakers. And he reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded both Jews and Greeks.

When Silas and Timothy had come from Macedonia, Paul was compelled [a]by the Spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus is the Christ. But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook his garments and said to them, “Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles.” And he departed from there and entered the house of a certain man named [b]Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue. Then Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his household. And many of the Corinthians, hearing, believed and were baptized.

Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; 10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people in this city.” 11 And he continued there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.

12 When Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him to the [c]judgment seat, 13 saying, “This fellow persuades men to worship God contrary to the law.”

14 And when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, “If it were a matter of wrongdoing or wicked crimes, O Jews, there would be reason why I should bear with you. 15 But if it is a question of words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves; for I do not want to be a judge of such matters.” 16 And he drove them from the judgment seat. 17 Then [d]all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. But Gallio took no notice of these things.

Good morning and welcome

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

  • Acts 18:5 And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
This is still to the majority of Jews a horrible scandal.
1 Corinthians 1:22-23 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, and unto the Greeks foolishness.

  • Good morning. Pastor started a sermon series on prayer yesterday. It's going to be very interesting, I think. Our new pastor is good, his sermons aren't centered on what God can do for me but on what I can do to have a relationship with God.

      • Meh.
We've had a few showings but no offers. If we don't get any offers in the next couple weeks, we'll pull it off the market & try again in the spring.

        • There are companies that buy houses for cash. You could see what they would offer. If you do though, make sure you are out from under any realtor you have, or they will get commission off the sale.
That being said, it doesn't mean that you have to sell the house this way, but it doesn't hurt to check.

          • We've had 2 lowball offers from investors. We have a set price we will not go below.
            Our realtor is our niece.

          • The ads are nationwide. I don't know if I can identify them here, but they're all nationally recognized real estate websites

  • Good Morning. God Bless all here today.

    ...... The Direction of Up
    Monday, October 14, 2024
Where are you heading in life? Is it a career, school, marriage, a house, ministry, or do you have a plan? These things may be in God's will, but, they're not the direction of your life. Proverbs 15:24 says, "The path of life leads upward for the wise that he may keep away from sheol below." People head in all directions to reach their goal in life. But Proverbs doesn't say the path of life leads north, south, east, or west - but up. So if any goal in this world becomes the final goal, the end reason of why you're doing what you do, your direction is no longer upward. Your goal should never be to get from point A to B, but rather to rise up from the earthly to the heavenly, from selfishness to love, from ungodliness to holiness, from the carnal to the spiritual. Take that step that will lead you higher up in God. The path of life is better than north, south, east, or west. For the direction of our life is up!
