Daily Thread – Colossians 3

Character of the New Man

12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

Good morning and welcome

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

    • Good morning, genie. Isn't it amazing how God gives us encouragement, comfort or reminders just when we need them most? I was having a tough day earlier this week & then I read the daily verse I get from a Bible app. It was a reminder that I'm never alone & was exactly what I needed to read. My day got better!

  • ...the peace of God rule in your hearts....and become thankful...the word of Christ dwell in you richly, with all wisdom...

For some of us, peace is still, unfortunately, a foreign concept in some ways. God still has a lot of work to do in us.. We did not live youth in a peaceful home or peaceful environment. Peace belonged to privileged people somewhere else. Maybe we heard the word sometimes, but the definition and the reality were unknown.

    ...and become thankful...
Now, that may have to find its way through a lot of opposition and very bad thoughts, attitudes and reactions. Sometimes, the biggest thing for which to be thankful at the end of the day, was that the ones who found such pleasure in making life miserable, were too involved in conflict with one another for that one day, that it was possible to get through without being cornered and having to fight for an escape....for that one day.

...the word of Christ dwell in you richly, with all wisdom...
That's easier to pursue and strive to know as a daily, welcomed environment, where there is every potential for joy and stability and contentment...at least within the hidden person of the heart...well, even if there is not yet a level of growth that results in unfazed trust in the Lord, that lasts all day, through anything and everything that is opposed to peace and thankfulness and wisdom.

Maybe this is only personal experience, and not something that affects many people. Maybe others have no struggle to trust God at a level that results in perfect peace while conflict rumbles all around.

These are probably the ways of the Lord, to teach that the peace of Christ in this world in this life, is not a complete absence of turmoil and conflict and opposition. Probably the Lord uses the oppositions and campaigns against peace, to teach that the submission and trust in Him which result in peace is not learned and demonstrated in the absence of conflicts, but rather in the thick of conflicts.
He is out to teach that those who love His law have great peace, and nothing shall cause them to stumble...turn them aside nor upset and unsettle them. (Psalm 119:165)
He is out to teach that in the world there will be tribulation, but He has overcome the world. (John 14)

Probably, the Lord is out to teach that to be thankful is really learned and demonstrated when life and circumstances join together to make being thankful difficult and unnatural. He intends that thankfulness is rooted and grounded in Him, not in circumstances and the things of this life in this world.
Rejoicing must be in the Lord. (Philippians 4:4)

Probably, the way of the Lord to teach keeping the heart and mind hospitable for His word to be the welcomed resident there, is to keep the events and environments of life so overwhelming and confusing and varied, that only His word and wisdom can effectively, successfully lead in the way everlasting to the praise of His glory.
    (Psalm 32:6-10; Proverbs 3:5,6; Psalm 119:9-11; Psalm 119:103-105)

The Lord certainly takes on some cases of pupils, called out wanderers, who do not have any inherent tendencies to be easy learners...and not setting them apart to learn of Him and demonstrate His grace and glory in isolation, He places them all into one body of people, where it is necessary to learn from Him to love, to be at peace, to be thankful, and to let the Word of Christ reside lavishly with all wisdom, so that He can corporately shine His light through that body of His, to individually and corporately make the members His ambassadors to those who walk in darkness.

The Lord has set the menagerie of members into His one body where it is necessary to learn of Him to be merciful, kind, humble-minded, meek, long-suffering, forbearing, forgiving, loving to one another.
The purpose of His is to grow each member individually with the goal of His body working together, not spastic nor in turmoil and divisive, He being the Head who directs each part.

Here I was worried because family in Southern Indiana was in the path of a "Super Cell Storm". They are getting rain and thunder storms. But I am getting the WORST of it down in Barren County, KY..... Incredible storms!

    • Are you keeping an eye on the weather? It looks like the supercells thunderstorms are tracking in your direction. Stay safe, my friend.
We have family in East Texas, that haven’t been able to contact, yet.
