Okay, so here’s what I’m thinking.

12 of the Best Non-Perishable Foods

My son called me last night and told me emergency food supplies have gone up 200%.  I didn’t realize that was happening. The ready wise bucket I purchased for $70. is now $278.99 (prices vary).  What is in these buckets of emergency supply food is dried meals.  If we are going to stock up a little on food what should we be looking for?

First if there will be a shortage of wheat so I looked this up;

“What foods contain wheat?

Wheat is typically milled into flour which is then used to make a wide range of foods including bread, crumpets, muffins, noodles, pasta, biscuits, cakes, pastries, cereal bars, sweet and savoury snack foods, crackers, crisp-breads, sauces and confectionery (e.g. liquorice).”

So at the very least we need to store some flour and yeast, noodles and pasta.  There are crackers that last a long time as well.  If you can’t live without cake and you only buy the box mixes you should buy a few now.  Also muffin mixes can be purchased in packets or boxes.

There are all kinds of dried foods to be purchased where you can make your own emergency food bucket.  For example “Bear Creek” makes dried soup mixes that are pretty good.  There are packets of dried noodle and rice mixes from Zatarain’s, Knorr, Near East, and others.  You can purchase packs or boxes of instant potatoes, and dried milk.  And don’t forget oatmeal.

If your going to have a garden I would suggest investing in a dehydrator.  They are not that expensive and you can dehydrate your own vegetables and fruit.  The prices have gone up but I see one can be purchased from Amazon for $45.99

What about drinks?  I just saw a video by “The Biblical Nutritionist” on Teas that fight cancer.  I can post the video below but if you don’t want to watch it, it’s 23 minutes long, the list of teas that fight cancer are Matcha, green tea, black tea, Rooibos, Hibiscus, gun powder tea is their list.  They failed to put white tea in there.  I think any or all of these teas would be great to have a stock of.   There are other dried drinks as well, remember Tang?  And of course coffee.

I’ve been searching this morning for videos that show what is in emergency food supplies and all I seem to be able to find is advertisements to buy their products.  Shop around and be sure your getting what your paying for, not only the quality of food but the amount of serving sizes.  Do you realize that a serving size is often a half of a cup?  That will keep you alive but not be a satisfying meal.

If you have any ideas that I haven’t thought of please post them for everyone?
