Over 2,500 NYPD Officers Abruptly Resign

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – New York’s police force is experiencing a rapid departure of officers, with data revealing an alarming rate of resignations. Concerns heightened among some officers as the city intended to cancel the following five Police Academy classes, potentially reducing the nation’s most significant police force to its smallest size in decades.

In the current year, 2,516 NYPD officers have resigned, marking the fourth-highest number in the past decade. This figure is 43% higher than the 1,750 officers who left in 2018, a period preceding the onset of the pandemic and spikes in crime, as indicated by NYPD pension data.

A growing number of officers are resigning before reaching the eligibility for their pensions. In 2020, approximately 509 officers left before completing the required 20 years of service for their full pension. This year, the number has surged to 1,040 officers below the 20-year mark, reflecting a 104% increase, and the year is not yet concluded.

Officers typically complete 20 years or more of service to be eligible for their full pension, which amounts to 50% of their final average salary.

Mayor Adams of New York has decided to eliminate the upcoming five Police Academy classes due to his massive budget cuts disclosed on November 16.

The massive cuts will bring the department’s strength down to just 29,000 police officers by the conclusion of fiscal year 2025, marking its lowest staffing levels since the mid-90s. Mayor Adams attributed the massive cuts to government programs due to the city’s multi-billion-dollar migrant crisis.

SANCTUARY CITY

New York has been a “sanctuary city” since 2014, when then-Mayor Bill de Blasio enacted two bills into law, substantially diminishing the extent to which city officials would collaborate with federal immigration enforcement.

The introductions of 486-A and 487-A marked the termination of the city’s collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer requests, except in cases where an individual has been convicted of a violent crime. The legislation also ended the presence of federal immigration officials at Rikers Island and all other city-run facilities.

As a result, New York has reached a critical juncture, grappling with the arrival of over 100,000 migrants since the spring of 2022. The strain on resources has escalated to the brink of fiscal collapse, exacerbated by the city’s decision to embrace the “sanctuary city” status.

  • Glenn touched on this in the video this morning. I didn't know that theft had become such a huge problem that stores were closing in New York City. That is exactly what happened in California. Theft, homelessness, crime. Can't they see the result of the decisions their making?

  • They created a "sanctuary city".

....... So they create a social disaster. Then they want billions of your tax dollars to deal with the disaster. Watch. In the near future? They will find a way to blame conservatives for this. Or maybe just the Orange Weenie-Trump. But they will never accept responsibility for creating all this chaos in the first place.

    • That's exactly right Gene. They absolutely created this. These migrants are destroying the property in the buildings they've been placed, they are getting drunk, stealing, and are a threat to people on the street.

  • If all of a sudden people started hating garbage collectors and blaming them for everything wrong happening in the city eventually you would have no more garbage collectors.

Then the city would fill up with garbage which is exactly what's going to happen when all the police are gone.

Titus 3:1-2 Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2 to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and always to be gentle toward everyone.
