What does the Bible say about women leaders in government.

The question of whether a woman should lead a nation as President, Prime Minister, or any high governmental office is one that is not easily answered biblically. For one thing, the Bible has much to say about the roles of Christian men and women in the home and in the church—where the man is the divinely ordained authority—but not much on the role of women in the leadership of nations. If we apply the biblical principles of leadership in the home and the church to governments, we go beyond what the Bible says and may be taking liberties with Scripture that God did not intend.

Some point to women in the Bible such as Deborah and Huldah to support the idea of a woman President. The only problem with that approach is that we cannot strictly apply Old Testament commandments for the nation of Israel to any modern nation, because God chose only one nation to be His special people. Neither the United States nor any other nation is the spiritual equivalent of Israel, and God’s dealings with Israel are not necessarily cross-cultural. Having said that, we can still apply certain scriptural principles to help us determine whether to vote for a woman for President or any other high governmental office.

In considering the issue of a woman President, we note that women in the Bible occasionally held strong positions: some good, some bad. Esther was in a place where her influence as queen could help Israel, but she was not the highest authority in Persia. Jezebel was the wife of King Ahab, but she had an evil influence. Many women followed Jesus, and godly women helped the apostles. Paul wrote to Timothy about the importance of the spiritual influence of Timothy’s mother Eunice and his grandmother Lois (2 Timothy 1:5).

Bible women often held influential roles yet not necessarily leadership positions. In fact, at times, women rulers were seen as a sign of judgment. The prophet Isaiah lamented, “O My people! Their oppressors are children, and women rule over them” (Isaiah 3:12). Isaiah is saying that women were considered ill-suited for leadership in the nation of Israel; however, the question remains whether we can extrapolate from that verse a general principle that all women are equally ill-suited for leadership of any nation at any time. Deborah led Israel (Judges 4:1–5:31) and received God’s blessing. Modern times have seen several outstanding female national leaders, including Israel’s Golda Meir, who successfully ruled Israel from 1969 to 1974. Since we know that God ordains all leadership—“For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God” (Romans 13:1)—we can assume that He placed Mrs. Meir in the leadership of Israel and sovereignly ordained her term of office.

Generally speaking, God designed men for positions of leadership. But, apart from leadership in the church and family, which is given to men alone, the Bible doesn’t expressly forbid women from positions of government. As a “gray” issue, the question of women leading in government has been passionately debated. Even those who are most vehemently against a woman President would be hard pressed to justify voting for an ungodly man who has a favorable position toward abortion, for example, over a godly Christian woman with a strong pro-life stance.

I (the writer of this article) am a woman who has found joy in my femininity. It is not an inferior role but a high calling. I bear, nurture, support, influence, and unite life. My personal belief is that the best is for men to lead in government. However, as a citizen of this nation, I willingly submit myself to the civil authority that God places over me—whether men or women (Romans 13:1–7). God’s command to obey government rulers has no caveat as to whether or not we think they are good authorities. Therefore, if a woman were to be elected President, I would respect her office and obey her direction.

      • Kamala is probably not going to go away if she loses she could very well come back after Trump or maybe after the one or two presidents after Trump and try again, she is young enough. And if I'm not mistaken the left has given her $1 billion in her warchest and that's going to be used to bring on the antichrist just like Iran is using all that money Obama gave them to attack Israel and to cause other problems around the world.

So she could still be the one that was prophesied. I'm convinced this is not her time.

        • The vision of the destruction of America is scary. It could be a natural disaster or a nuclear event. I hope neither.

          • I don't believe we will be here at that point.

But I don't see America in end time prophecy so that either means America stays out of the fight or I'm hoping that means he'll be such a great revival that after the rapture there will only be a skeleton crew here.

            Time will tell.

          • The USA is the true friend of Israel except when certain Democrats are in power.

I have a feeling that the next Trump administration will help end the fighting in the Middle East and actually see the beginning of the third and last temple being built.

But when Israel is surrounded at the battle of Armageddon the USA will not come to save them because Jesus will.

    • Well if Kamala gets in it seems to me that we are in the very end of the End Times, so I can be happy that Jesus will be coming for His bride sooner than we can hope for.

      • William Branham was an interesting character he never finished grade school I think he dropped out somewhere between the third and the fifth grade. Times are tough and I think if my memory serves me he went to work for the family. So he was a simple man and he did have some strange doctrines but he was a humble man who learned to obey God's voice. God worked through him like God did through Moses some profound signs and wonders and miracles.

Gordon Lindsay was the editor of the "Streams of Healing" newsletter back in the day that brought together a lot of the healing ministries of that day including William Branham. Many times Gordon tries to convince William not to preach but then let someone else who is trained in the word preach and then he could perform the healing services afterwards.

But with Branham's faults, his prophecies were extremely accurate. He is an example of God seeing the heart and not the intellect.

Concerning the election I'm simply holding on to what I felt God told me two-three weeks before the 2020 election that Trump's two terms would be broken up by someone else who would be so incompetent people would want Trump back. I never envisioned an administration so incompetent as the one we have today. And so evil as well.

Hopefully sometime this week we will know.

I've noticed stock in Trump's Internet company has gone wild over the last several days. It shot up so quickly and so high a few days back that they shut down trading to try to understand if any shenanigans were going on. Today's returns are up 9%. I'm taking that as a sign that people are getting behind Trump.

Just like any man Trump is a broken vessel but the good news God uses broken vessels all the time. William Branham is a good example. His heart was right he was a very humble man and that was an open door for God to use him.

        • I'm so grateful that God knows the hearts of people and judges accordingly. But I'm having a hard time seeing how so many people have succumbed to deception in these latter times. These last four years haven't taught them anything. Of course the media has steered them away from reality or maybe they just like the reality. Even some churches. But God knows what He is doing and it is for His Glory which Jesus prayed for all believers in Him: John 17:22 "And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one."

          • The Bible says in the last days many will depart from the faith and it looks like many will depart from reality as well.

  • Isaiah 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
