Throughout time there have been two paths to choose from. Obedience to, or Rebellion against, God.
The main thrust of the rebellion is not to just remove the law of God, but to replace it. The first act of rebellion, was to act to replace the First command. “I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other God beside me.”
“I will ascend above the most High. I will become god.”
Now to get man to question it…. “Yea, Hath God said??” “Let me question, and cause mankind to question the Word of God.” In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. God commands – “Do not eat of this tree!” Man replaces that, and eats of the tree.
Now let’s jump ahead… “IF you are the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.” An appeal (as in the garden) to the flesh.
Jesus responded with what can be considered a command. As the next two question come, they too are followed by what can be considered commands. And the devil departed from Him.
In any case in which the commands of God are removed, and absolutes are set to the side. Then moral relativism fills the void. Man becomes god. Man decides what is absolute. When man decides what is law, then man submits to man, and not God. Which leads to bondage and anarchy. Man still rebels against law, even if it is mans law. Yet even when the cause and effect of this lays in the lap of rebellion. Men still raise their fist to Heaven, and shake them, blaming God for the results of their own rebellion. Failing to understand that when something is removed, it leaves a void to be filled. thus removing Gods authority, it must be filled and replaced by something else. And we think we are the answer.
Silly human beings!!!
