Why does God allow earthquakes, tornados, hurricanes, tsunamis, typhoons, cyclones, mudslides, wildfires, and other natural disasters? Back-to-back hurricanes in the USA in the fall of 2024 are causing many people to question God’s goodness. It is distressing that natural disasters are often termed “acts of God” while no “credit” is given to God for years, decades, or even centuries of peaceful weather. God created the whole universe and the laws of nature (Genesis 1:1). Most natural disasters are a result of these laws at work. Hurricanes, typhoons, and tornados are the results of divergent weather patterns colliding. Earthquakes are the result of the earth’s plate structure shifting. A tsunami is caused by an underwater earthquake.
The Bible proclaims that Jesus Christ holds all of nature together (Colossians 1:16-17). Could God prevent natural disasters? Absolutely! Does God sometimes influence the weather? Yes, as we see in Deuteronomy 11:17 and James 5:17. Numbers 16:30-34 shows us that God sometimes causes natural disasters as a judgment against sin. The book of Revelation describes many events which could definitely be described as natural disasters (Revelation chapters 6, 8, and 16). Is every natural disaster a punishment from God? Absolutely not.
In much the same way that God allows evil people to commit evil acts, God allows the earth to reflect the consequences sin has had on creation. Romans 8:19-21 tells us, “The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.” The fall of humanity into sin had effects on everything, including the world we inhabit. Everything in creation is subject to “frustration” and “decay.” Sin is the ultimate cause of natural disasters just as it is the cause of death, disease, and suffering.
We can understand why natural disasters occur. What we do not understand is why God allows them to occur. Why did God allow a tsunami to kill over 225,000 people in Asia? Why does God allow hurricanes to destroy the homes of thousands of people? For one thing, such events shake our confidence in this life and force us to think about eternity. Churches are usually filled after disasters as people realize how tenuous their lives really are and how life can be taken away in an instant. What we do know is this: God is good! Many amazing miracles occurred during the course of natural disasters that prevented even greater loss of life. Natural disasters cause millions of people to reevaluate their priorities in life. Hundreds of millions of dollars in aid is sent to help the people who are suffering. Christian ministries have the opportunity to help, minister, counsel, pray, and lead people to saving faith in Christ! God can, and does, bring great good out of terrible tragedies (Romans 8:28)

The whole creation waits for the removal of the curse.
All of this worlds natural disaster have been created by God/Jesus every time they happen. There is no other reason for a natural disaster except for punishment from God/Jesus.
I will never believe that these disasters created by God/Jesus happen without Him causing each and everyone of them.
I don't believe that. I think we created them after the fall in the garden.
His scripture tells a different story.
Colossians 1:16-17. For by HIM all things were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities - all things were created through Him and for Him
17. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
God didn't create us to die, and God didn't create hell for us either and yet here we are.
God/Jesus knew everything that was going to happen in the Garden and all of the rest of creation, up to today and our future, before He created everything and God/Jesus did it anyway.
Praise the Lord that He did.
The exact time of the second coming is unknown to men and angels and even Jesus. Mark 13:32 But of that day and that hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.
I believe Jesus knows the hour now. He stated that scripture while He was on earth. Jesus is back in His heavenly realm now.
Now He knows, that is correct.
We human don’t have the ability to create something from nothing and that’s exactly what God/Jesus does every time He creates.
Let me ask you a question, please.
At our highest point of history in the past 2000 years what percentage would you put those that have been saved.
Myself maybe 20% maximum in 1 or 2 generations.
That puts the unrepentant at 80% throughout all of history. And today it probably closer to 98% that’s unrepentant world wide.
But remember at 2% percent today is approximately 160 million people that are born again Christians.
I don’t believe that any natural disaster of any kind doesn’t occur without God/Jesus in complete control of everyone of them.
Blessings to all.
John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The devil's work is to steal, kill, and destroy. Not God/Jesus, not God/Father and not God/ Holy Spirit. God allows or prevents these things to happen.
Isaiah 55:8. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and neither are your ways My ways.
This idea of God's ways and thoughts being higher than man's is connected with the idea of pardon from God.
Isaiah 55:6-9 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
You’re welcome to your interpretation but I don’t agree.
And so are.
I don’t see a pardon for human beings of any kind from God/Jesus in that scripture.
We humans tend to think that evil is good and good is evil. God/Jesus never thinks/lives in those terms.
Because you take single verses.
There are 2 verses there sir. 55:8-9. And I read the verses that you put down.
I still don’t see the pardon. You’re reading something in there that isn’t there.
What I read is what God/Jesus is telling us that He is nothing like human being’s in any context.
{DMS} Isaiah 55:8. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, and neither are your ways My ways.
{DMS} God/Jesus knew everything that was going to happen in the Garden and all of the rest of creation,
Yes I’m in agreement with all that God/Jesus does.
This is what YOU wrote, not me.
{1} His Ways and Thoughts Higher: In pardon. People never would have planned pardon for enemies, as God did. Human beings seek revenge on all such and harbor malice and hatred, whereas God planned redemption and untold glories for His enemies.
{2} In number of offenses. Under favorable and special circumstances people forgive a few times, but they are prone not to forgive after repeated offenses and in your case I have seen this many times.. God forgives freely many times and as completely and lovingly the last time as the first.
I’ve forgiven many people in my life time including people who hate me. But I’ve read nowhere in scripture that I’m supposed to trust them again. God/Jesus forgives us every time we repent. No matter how many times we repent. God/Jesus is nothing like us human beings. He’s a very loving God.
The fall in the garden started a lot of things. This concerning the weather is one of them. At that time, sin entered into the world. Could God have just snapped His fingers and "poof," all better?
Why didn't He? Did He provide a way back to the "garden," a way back to Him, a way of restoration? Yes!
Does He provide a way of restoration for these things? Yes! It's the same way back to Him. Christ!
But, that is just the first part in this case. Problem is, the enemy has too many of those who have taken that way back, chasing squirrels. For scripture states: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land"
Instead, most take the route given at the end of the book...
And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments. And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
Rather than repentance and prayer, men would rather shake their fist at God, and blame Him instead.
It's no different than at the beginning...... "Why have you hid yourselves, and who told you that you were naked?" "Did you eat that which I told you not to?" "well, the serpent......" "But the woman......"
Excuses, excuses, excuses.....
Unrepentant Mankind hasn’t got a clue to anything concerning our weather and how it comes about and never will.
God/Jesus controls the weather mankind does not.
There is no such thing as climate change.
God/Jesus states that there will always be a growing and harvest season.
